Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent, which is the 40 days before to Easter when many Catholics practice fasting, repentance, moderation and spiritual discipline.
1. Provides a set time to reflect and honor God
2. Can be a wake up call
3. Reminds us of our mortality, "Dust thou art, and to dust thou wilt return"
1. Ash Wednesday and Lent are not mentioned in the Bible
2. Ash is dirty
3. Why should we wait until this day to reflect on our lives and how we are living
